$400K in cocaine seized during OPP traffic stop near Thunder Bay

A routine traffic stop conducted by Ontario Provincial Police on Tuesday has resulted in a major drug seizure and criminal charges.

The incident occurred in the Municipality of Shuniah, just outside Thunder Bay.

“During the interaction with the driver, the officer formed reasonable grounds to believe the vehicle was being used to traffic controlled drugs and substances,” OPP said in a news release Wednesday.

Following a search of the vehicle, officers seized a quantity of suspected cocaine with an estimated street value $400,000.

OPP also seized the vehicle itself as offence-related property.

As a result of the investigation, a 33-year-old man from Oshawa now faces two drug trafficking charges.

The accused remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in court in Thunder Bay on Feb. 4.
