A grisly new video showing the body of Saddam Hussein shortly after his execution has appeared on the Internet.

In the video, what appears to be the former Iraqi leader's corpse is on a stretcher, with a visible gaping neck wound and his head twisted sharply to one side.

The unofficial footage appears to have been filmed on a cellphone, as was an earlier graphic video which captured the hanging.

The footage pans up the shrouded body of the former leader starting at his feet.

It was apparently taken shortly after Saddam was executed and placed on a stretcher -- possibly in a morgue or hospital.

As the shot pans upwards, the white shroud is pulled back to reveal Saddam's head, which is unnaturally twisted at a 90-degree angle to his right.

His neck bears a gaping circular wound, about three-centimetres wide, below his jawline on the left side of his neck.

His left check is marked with red blotches and blood is visible on the shroud where it covered his head.

As the shroud is pulled back, one voice is heard saying, "Hurry up, hurry up. I'm going to count from one to four. One, two ... . Hurry up you're going to get us into a catastrophe."

Then another voice, apparently the man capturing the footage, says, "Just one second, just one second, Abu Ali. I'm about finished."

Then a third voice says, "Abu Ali, you take care of this."

Another voice says, "One minute, just one minute."

Then another man shouts: "My dear, my dear. By God..."

The 27-second video was posted on an Iraqi news website that is known to support Saddam's outlawed Baath Party.

"A new film of the late immortal martyr, President Saddam Hussein," the website said in a headline over a link to the video.

The newest video leak is expected to fuel fresh anger among Iraq's Sunni community over the way the execution was carried out.

There was a similar outcry around the world, with some international leaders saying Saddam could become a martyr because of the controversial circumstances surrounding his last moments.

The first clandestine video shows Saddam dropping through the gallows floor and ends with his body swinging at the end of a rope.

The leaked video also captured voices taunting Saddam with cries of "Muqtada, Muqtada, Muqtada," referring to radical anti-American cleric Muqtada al-Sadr, who is a key supporter of Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki.

In stark contrast, the official video, which was broadcast not long after his execution showed him standing silently on the gallows as the noose was placed around his neck.

Saddam was executed for crimes against humanity on December 30.
