HALIFAX - A Halifax man charged with murdering two men in Nova Scotia in 2007 will be extradited to Canada from the United States, Nova Scotia's Public Prosecution Service confirmed Friday.

Glen Race of the suburb of Dartmouth is charged with first-degree murder in the deaths of Michael Knott and Trevor Brewster.

Knott's body was found on a wooded path in southwestern Nova Scotia on May 5, 2007. Brewster's body was found four days later under a boardwalk at a lake in Halifax.

Race was arrested on May 15, 2007, while trying to cross the U.S.-Mexican border. American police charged Race with the murder of a New York man killed four days earlier, a crime for which Race was convicted and sentenced to life in prison.

In January 2009, the province applied to have Race extradited to face the murder charges in Nova Scotia.

The Public Prosecution Service said Friday it was notified this week that Race could be picked up and that the RCMP would escort him back to Nova Scotia.

Race is to be arraigned Wednesday in Bridgewater provincial court.

Race will be returned to the U.S. once the Nova Scotia court proceedings are completed, the service said.
