PORT SAUNDERS, N.L. - A 30-year-old Newfoundland man is dead after he was buried by an avalanche while snowmobiling.
The RCMP say the man was snowmobiling with several other people Saturday night on Eastern Blue Mountain on the province's Northern Peninsula.
The avalanche buried seven people, but six of them were able to escape.
The unidentified victim, who the police say is from nearby River of Ponds, was buried for several minutes before others in the group dug him out and performed first aid.
He was taken hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The Mounties say they are investigating.
