FREDERICTON - Emerging from his latest meeting with the prime minister, New Brunswick Premier Shawn Graham says the federal government needs to be flexible on a number of major issues affecting the province.

Graham met with Stephen Harper on Monday prior to the opening of the world junior track and field championships in Moncton, N.B.

Graham says he pressed Harper once again for help covering the $400 million cost of replacement power while Atomic Energy of Canada upgrades the Point Lepreau nuclear power plant.

The province has threatened to take legal action, but Graham says for now the priority is to complete the refurbishment which is running about 18 months behind schedule.

Graham says he also restated his position on the need for a long-term maintenance agreement for the Harbour Bridge in Saint John and the twinning of Highway 11.

There have been suggestions that the federal Conservatives are holding off on such announcements to avoid helping Graham's Liberals in advance of the provincial election in September.
