ST. JOHN'S, N.L. - The Newfoundland and Labrador government confirms it has received a proposal for a subsea transmission line that will link Nova Scotia with the proposed Muskrat Falls hydroelectric project.

The proposal will be the subject of an environmental assessment.

ENL Maritime Link Inc, owned by Halifax-based Emera Inc., plans to build two transmission lines across the Cabot Strait.

They will join Cape Ray in southwestern Newfoundland with Point Aconi in Cape Breton -- a span of 180 kilometres.

Construction is scheduled to begin in 2014.

The electricity is expected to start flowing three years later.
