Conservative Calgary MP Rob Anders has apologized for the comments he made after he was accused of falling asleep during a presentation on homeless veterans this week.

In a statement released late Friday, Anders said he has "enormous" respect for those who have served their country.

Several members of a group discussing homeless veterans said they saw Anders doze off during their presentation at a meeting in Halifax.

Anders denied falling asleep and said his accusers were NDP "hacks" who praised Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin during the meeting.

Anders apologized for any offence his comments may have caused and said he will continue to work on behalf of Canada's veterans.

This isn't the first time Anders has been accused of sleeping on the job. Last year, cameras caught him apparently napping in the House of Commons. The video was uploaded to YouTube and widely circulated online.
