More than half of Quebecers want a new government come the next election: survey

A new Leger poll shows that the PQ would form government in Quebec if an election were held today.

Quebecers are set to head to the polls by Oct. 5, 2026, and according to a new survey by Léger for Québecor, 63 per cent of respondents say they want to see a new government take charge.

Contrarily, 18 per cent say they would like to continue with the current government, and 19 per cent did not answer.

If an election were to be held today in Quebec, 33 per cent of respondents say they would vote for the Parti Québécois (PQ), putting it up three points since the last survey on March 10, 2025.

Leader Paul St-Pierre Plamondon also received the highest marks from respondents, who said he would make the best premier of Quebec (24 per cent, but down four points), and credited him with the ability to bring about the most change in the province (28 per cent).

The Quebec Liberal Party (PLQ) received 21 per cent of voter intentions (up two points), and interim leader Marc Tanguay received 11 per cent (up three points) as best premier and 12 per cent for change.

In third place is the Coalition Avenir Québec (CAQ), which is down four points at 20 per cent.

As for the best premier, François Legault is up three points at 21 per cent, with nine per cent saying his party would bring the most change.

Éric Duhaime’s Conservative Party of Quebec (PCQ) took 13 per cent of voter intentions (up one point).

As a leader, he received the support of eight per cent (down one), though 11 per cent said they believed he would bring about the most change.

Québec Solidaire (QS) is down two points at 10 per cent, with support for Ruba Ghazal as the best premier at five per cent (there is no data in comparison to the last survey on Nov. 12, 2024, as Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois was the co-spokesperson).

Additionally, 10 per cent said she would bring about the most change to the province.

The survey also found that 61 per cent of respondents were unsatisfied with Legault’s government (31 per cent somewhat unsatisfied, 30 per cent very unsatisfied).

Liberal leadership

Léger says it has also been following the Quebec Liberal leadership race since February 2024.

“In May 2025, [former federal transport minister] Pablo Rodriguez remains the preferred candidate among both the general population (25 per cent) and Liberal voters in Quebec (32 per cent),” the organization states. “[Former Conseil du patronat President] Karl Blackburn has five per cent support among the general public and six per cent among Liberal voters in Quebec.”

Former CEO of the Fédération des chambres de commerce du Québec Charles Milliard ties Blackburn at five per cent support, with six per cent among Liberal voters.

Tax lawyer Marc Bélanger is at three per cent and four per cent, respectively, while farmer Mario Roy is at one per cent and zero per cent.

Quebec independence

Sovereignty is up three points since March 10, 2025, with 32 per cent of Quebecers saying they support the movement.

All the same, 59 per cent of respondents say they would vote against separating.

The web survey was conducted between May 9 and 11, 2025, among 1,051 Quebecers aged 18 or over who are eligible to vote in Canada.

It is not possible to calculate a margin of error on a sample drawn from a panel, but a maximum margin of error for a sample of 1,051 respondents is ±3.02 per cent, 19 times out of 20.

The results were weighted according to gender, age, mother tongue, region, level of education and presence of children in the household.
