An alleged attempted arson was set in the entrance of a duplex in Montreal’s Côte-des-Neiges–Notre-Dame-de-Grâce borough early Monday morning. Montreal police (SPVM) received a 911 call at 1:40 a.m. about the incident on Girouard Avenue near Saint-Jacques Street. “When the police arrived on the scene, the fire had extinguished itself,” said Caroline Chèvrefils, a spokesperson with Montreal police. “According to the first information, one or more suspects would have started the fire in front of the duplex front door and then fled before the arrival of the police.” Damage to the building is considered minor. “Incendiary materials were found at the scene,” said Chèvrefils. There were no reported injuries, and there have been no arrests. The investigation is ongoing, and the file has been transferred to the Montreal police arson squad.
