From glittery orange cardigans to friendship bracelets and feather boas, Quebec Swifties are getting Bejeweled ahead of Taylor Swift’s The Life of a Showgirl album release. At her home in Montreal’s Ville-Émard neighbourhood, nine-year-old Adelaide Henstridge-L is curating the perfect showgirl outfit to celebrate the big day. “It just reminds me of all the eras she’s had, like Reputation, 1989, Midnights, it just reminds me of them all," she said of the glittering ensemble. Last November, Addie (as she’s known to her loved ones) had her Wildest Dreams come true when her mom, Alison Henstridge, surprised her with tickets to The Eras Tour in Toronto. “We became Swifties together,” said Henstridge. “I first started listening to Taylor a lot more when Midnights came out, and we just kind of really bonded over that, and we’ve been doing this whole journey together." It was a momentous mother-daughter trip that culminated in the two announcing that a little baby brother was on the way. “We just had a great time, sang songs and danced constantly the whole time,” Henstridge recalled. The Henstridges aren’t the only Montrealers excited to get Enchanted with the new album. Amanda Rosa admits that she’s too tired of being in her mom era to dress up, attend a party and dance until midnight, but she’ll be celebrating in her own way. “I guess what I’m doing for Friday is just freaking out,” she laughs. “I’m envisioning a glittery Reputation. Like, full on, are you ...Ready for it? vibes, but full of glitter." Rosa says she’s pretty sure she already has a favourite song on the album: Track five, Eldest Daughter. “I hope Eldest Daughter is going to hit where we want it to hit," she said. “We’ll see. Looking forward to that one.” The Swiftie fandom in Quebec says it is nothing if not ready to Jump Then Fall come Friday, according to Taylor Swift Quebec manager Marie-Anne De Champlain. “There are many people that are going to have different kinds of days,” she explained. “Some people want to wait during the day to listen to it, but I can’t wait. I need to watch [listen to] it at midnight.” De Champlain adds that she took the day off work to spend it with her Swiftie community, who are planning to gather at a cinema to watch the popstar’s highly anticipated film, Taylor Swift: The Official Release Party of a Showgirl. “We will gather as many Swifties as possible there, and a lot of people are going to wear showgirl costumes, and we’re going to wear, of course, friendship bracelets,” she said. “We’re going to have photobooth frames to take pictures, so it’s going to be a celebration.” In analyzing Swift’s famous Easter eggs (hints she drops to fans), De Champlain says she has her own theories about what the album could represent. “It’s going to be interesting to see behind the curtains,” she said. “We can see through the colour of the [vinyl] variants that it’s always opposite colours on the colour spectrum. So, orange with blue, purple with green... I think it’s going to be about the good and the bad sides of being that big of a star.” Anyway, Long Story Short, Swift’s twelfth studio album (TS12), The Life of a Showgirl, is set to be released on Friday, Oct. 3, at midnight.
