Montreal police are investigating after a young man died after a possible drowning at Verdun Beach on Monday afternoon. Police said they received a 911 call at around 4 p.m. after the man went missing and was last seen near the shoreline of the beach. The man’s body was recovered Monday evening. Police did not release the man’s identity but say he is believed to be around 20 years old and the death is considered to be accidental in nature. The beach was closed to the public while officers were on scene investigating the incident. The case has been turned over to the coroner’s office to determined the exact cause of death. Many residents were finding ways to keep cool on Monday as the region is under a heat warning. Monday reached a high of 35 C, but with the humidex it felt more like 44. Second drowning this month The tragedy also comes less than a week after police recovered the body of a 20-year-old man who drowned at Verdun Beach on June 7. Police said there was no evidence of the incident being criminal in nature. The first case was also transferred to the coroner’s office to determine the exact cause of death.
