Many Desjardins customers found that some of their pre-scheduled Interac transfers were processed twice instead of once during the night between Saturday and Sunday. “A few thousand people” were affected by this situation, according to the Quebec-based financial co-operative, which has assured that it will refund the fees or return the amounts to the affected customers. In recent hours, media outlets have reported cases of Desjardins members who noticed that some of their payments had been debited from their accounts twice. The duplicate processing of Interac transactions concerns certain pre-scheduled transfers dated Nov. 1, the Desjardins Group explained in an email on Monday, stating that it “sincerely regrets this situation.” The institution is asking “affected members to first contact the recipient of the transfer to ask them to return the amounts sent in duplicate.” If this proves impossible, Desjardins advises members to contact them on 1-800-CAISSES for assistance. In the event that a duplicate transaction appears and has not yet been cashed, it is recommended that it be cancelled immediately via AccèsD. “Affected members will not suffer any financial impact. Desjardins will reimburse any fees this situation may incur and will ensure that the funds are returned to them,” said a spokesperson for the financial institution. On Monday, the co-operative had not specified the cause behind these duplicate transfers. This report by The Canadian Press was first published in French on Nov. 2, 2026.
