Summer is just around the corner, and that means some streets in Montreal will once again be converted to pedestrian-only zones. This year, the city is temporarily banning cars from an additional street in the Villeray–Saint-Michel–Parc-Extension borough to encourage a pedestrian-friendly approach. The seven participating streets, spanning seven kilometres in six boroughs, are expected to make more than 1,200 businesses more accessible on foot. “Temporary pedestrianization is a key tool for boosting foot traffic, supporting local businesses and improving the quality of urban life. It also enhances Montreal’s appeal and reputation by positioning the city as an open-air showcase,” said Chantal Gagnon, member of the City of Montreal’s executive committee responsible for economic development and the green economy, in a news release issued Monday.
