The new terminal at the Montréal Metropolitan Airport (MET), located in the borough of Saint-Hubert in Longueuil on the South Shore, is set to officially open on June 15. The opening date was confirmed on Tuesday morning by the consortium behind this half-billion-dollar project. The new terminal, covering an area of 21,000 square metres, will feature nine boarding gates and a 900-seat lounge. At the opening, two airlines — Porter Airlines and Pascan Aviation — will offer flights to cities across Canada. Other carriers may set up operations there in the future. Montréal Metropolitan Airport CEO Yanic Roy noted in a press release that “the opening of the terminal at the MET will offer more options for travellers and allow airlines to benefit from greater airport capacity in the metropolitan area.” Flights from the MET will be operated by single-aisle aircraft, which are said to be quieter and more energy-efficient. An express shuttle, known as the METbus, will connect the Longueuil-Université-de-Sherbrooke Metro station to the airport’s drop-off point. The drop-off point will have three lanes. Construction began in August 2023. The terminal was originally scheduled to welcome its first passengers in 2024, but the opening date has been postponed several times.
