Small plane crashes at Montreal Metropolitan Airport

A small plane crashed at Montreal Metropolitan Airport in Longueuil, Que., on the South Shore of Montreal on Thursday afternoon, sending the pilot to a hospital.

A Cessna 177 Cardinal aircraft was trying to land at approximately 4 p.m. on Runway 24D-06G when it crashed, the Longueil fire department told CTV News.

The Longueil fire department says the pilot was transported to a hospital with minor injuries.

A media spokesperson for Montreal Metropolitan Airport (MET) says the runway was temporarily closed to allow emergency response operations and required inspections to be completed. This resulted in disruptions to commercial flight operations.

It reopened shortly after 6:45 p.m.

“The runway has since reopened, all airport operations have returned to normal, and the airport is operating safely,” a media spokesperson told CTV News.

In a statement to CTV News, the Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) says it is still collecting information on the crash.

“The TSB is aware of the accident involving a small aircraft near St-Hubert that occurred around 4 p.m. this afternoon,” the statement said.

“We are not planning on deploying investigators to the scene.”
