Residents of a residential neighbourhood in the municipality of Dollard-des-Ormeaux, on the western part of the Island of Montreal, were awakened by gunshots. There were several reports to 911 late Friday night, around 11 p.m., regarding multiple gunshots heard on Lido Street, near Pheasant Street. “When police arrived on the scene, they did not locate any victims or suspects. Shell casings were found on the ground, and bullet holes were found in a residence and a vehicle in the driveway,” said Officer Caroline Chèvrefils, spokesperson for the Montreal Police Service (SPVM). The circumstances surrounding this incident remain unclear. “A perimeter was established to secure the scene for investigators and forensic technicians so they could analyze it and try to understand the exact circumstances of this event,” said Chèvrefils. Witnesses were interviewed overnight, and police were set to check on Saturday whether nearby surveillance cameras might have captured footage of the incident. No one had been arrested at the time of this writing. The SPVM’s investigation is ongoing. This report by The Canadian Press was first published in French on Sept. 5, 2026.
