Quebec’s Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPAQ) is warning people not to consume smoked trout sold by Les Cowboys du BBQ after 14 days of its packaging date. The products affected include various formats sold until April 30, 2025. “The product that is the subject of this warning was offered for sale only at the establishment named above,” MAPAQ notes. “It was packaged in a clear plastic container. The product was sold refrigerated.” The warning has been issued as a precautionary measure. Anyone who bought the item in question is advised not to consume it if it has been packaged for more than 14 days. “They should return it to the store where they bought it or throw it away,” MAPAQ notes. “Even if the product in question does not show any signs of spoilage or odour, eating it may still represent a health risk.” The agency points out that when smoked fish is sold refrigerated, mandatory preventive measures must be taken when it comes to packaging and shelf life. There have been no reported cases of illness in association with the recall.
