Quebec provincial police say they stopped more than 1,600 heavy trucks in October as the police service works to increase surveillance and prevent risky behaviour on the roads. Police were watching for reckless behaviour, including failure to obey traffic signs, tailgating, distractions, not wearing a seat belt, failure to yield, and speeding. They also carried out inspections on driving hours, safety checks, possession of a valid licence and insurance, non-compliant equipment, and speed limiters. A total of 2,000 tickets were handed out for infractions. Police say they will continue to provide monthly reports on the matter as part of a surveillance plan.
