St. Polycarpe resident Nick Hryniowski said he noticed glass on his console when he went to buckle his infant into her car seat last Saturday morning. “I was like, where is this from?” he said. “Then I looked at my driver’s door window, and there was two big holes and cracks in them that looked like it could have been from something like a rock.” He called police and found out he was one of many victims of a similar crime that happened in several municipalities in the Vaudreuil-Soulanges region Friday night. He said even though his vehicle is insured, it will still cost him $500 to repair his windows. “It’s frustrating to be, a target of such a random crime, with what seems to be no motive whatsoever,” he said. SQ spokesperson Valerie Beauchamp said they received reports of incidents in Rigaud, Saint-Lazare, Saint-Polycarpe, Les Cedres, Coteau-du-Lac, Saint-Zotique and Les Coteaux on October 10th.. “A significant number of files have been opened, we’re talking about 65 cases, and there could certainly be more,” she said. Beauchamp said investigators believe the suspect or suspects fired lead pellets at the windows of vehicles and houses while in a moving vehicle. They are still determining exactly what sort of air gun was used. Investigators are also meeting with witnesses and reviewing footage from Friday night to get a description of the vehicle and suspect or suspects. “It was truly a rare event that occurred overnight from Friday to Saturday,” Beauchamp added.
