Members of Quebec’s National Assembly received a 7.5 per cent pay increase in 2025, just two years after voting themselves a 30 per cent raise. Since April 1, a Quebec MNA earns a base salary of $141,625, up from $131,766 last year, La Presse reported Thursday. In 2023, the base salary was $101,561. In addition to their base salary, most MNAs receive an extra allowance for holding a parliamentary role — which also increased by 7.5 per cent. For example, Premier François Legault’s salary rose from $270,120 last year to $290,331, an increase of $20,211. Details about MNA compensation were quietly updated on the National Assembly’s website this summer. The Act Respecting the Working Conditions of Members of the National Assembly, which boosted MNA salaries by 30 per cent in 2023, also included an indexing mechanism. At the time, the Coalition Avenir Québec and the Liberal Party voted in favour of the law, while the Parti Québécois and Québec Solidaire opposed it, pledging to donate part of their salary increase to organizations. When the law was passed, François Legault said MNAs were entitled to “competitive” compensation and to earn “as much money as possible” for their children. In December 2024, the four Parti Québécois MNAs announced they had donated $80,000 to dozens of organizations across the province.
