Two pigs fell off a transport trailer in Brossard on Tuesday and had to be rescued by animal protection officers. The incident happened on Highway 30 near the Highway 10 overpass, causing a temporary road closure. Police requested the assistance of Sauvetage Animal Rescue at around 12:40 p.m. to handle the pigs, which were found on the ground immobilized and unable to move. The volunteers used straps and blankets to move the animals to a trailer. “While the task was straightforward, adult pigs can weigh up to 500 pounds, so we deployed four vehicles and four rescuers,” a spokesperson said in an email to CTV News. The pigs were en route to the slaughterhouse and were eventually sent there, the group said. Sauvetage Animal Rescue said the response was pro bono, conducted by their “dedicated” volunteers.
