Police on Montreal’s South Shore have opened an investigation into death threats targeting officers following the fatal police shooting of a teenager last weekend, Noovo Info reported. One Longueuil officer is currently under police escort after being targeted by the threats online. Longueuil police addressed the threats in a post on their Facebook page Wednesday evening, but did not publicly link them to the shooting. The police force adds that no violence against its police officers will be tolerated. The shooting on Sunday has sparked anguish in the community, still reeling from the death of Nooran Rezayi. The teen was killed during a police intervention not far from his family’s home. Quebec’s police watchdog, the BEI, has opened an investigation into the shooting and has said the only firearm recovered from the scene was the one that belonged to police. Meanwhile, the officer who opened fire is on indefinite leave as the investigation continues. Montreal police have also launched a parallel investigation into activities in the neighbourhood that they say they learned about Sunday, before the shooting. On Saturday, friends of Rezayi will march through the neighbourhood, stopping at the police station, the park where he played and ending in front of his home. Another march is scheduled for Sunday.
