The city of Montreal says it is aware of an increase in potholes and is doing its best to fill them as soon as they are flagged. The city is urging residents to flag any potholes they see by calling 311 or through the city’s app or website. Outremont Mayor Caroline Braun says the calls go straight to foremen in the borough who are equipped to patch them up. She adds it’s a question of public safety that has been made worse by recent weather fluctuations. “Potholes can be very dangerous for everyone; for cars, for cyclists, for pedestrians,” Braun says. Braun adds that the city is working to clear snow and salt sidewalks as fast as possible. “We had snow, then rain, then super cold in just a few days ... we had to take out the snow before the rain turned to ice, which could damage city machines,” she says. She acknowledges some roads are better than others, but stresses that “you will see a difference today from yesterday, absolutely.
