Montreal family fears sick dog was abducted after disappearing from parked car

A Côte Saint-Luc couple is searching desperately for their dog Homer, whom they believe was abducted and who needs urgent medication.

A Côte Saint-Luc couple is on a frantic search for their dog Homer. They said they believe Homer was abducted and say he is sick and needs medication.

It’s been two weeks since Isabelle Pinsky last saw Homer. “He’s a beautiful little dog. He loves his home. He loved us,” she said.

She says her 11-year-old mixed-breed Yorkshire Terrier got out of her husband’s parked car on Nov. 12 near Saint-Kevin Avenue and Victoria Avenue in the Snowdon area of Montreal.

Pinsky’s daughter, Nancy Spilberg, came in from Toronto to help with the search.

“He’s going to die without the proper medication because he has a liver disease,” Spilberg said.

Spilberg says they have a lead: “A witness saw a woman by Mackenzie King Park take the dog’s leash and walk toward the Côte-Sainte-Catherine subway.”

They have filed a complaint with Montreal police (SPVM), saying the dog was abducted, and they hope whoever has Homer will return him.

Through her tears, Pinsky says, “I’m pleading with you. Please just go to the SPCA, give the dog back.”

Keeping up hope, their search continues with posters put up in the area and a social media blitz, which led to another problem.

Spilberg says she was repeatedly contacted by text by someone who said they had the dog, offering no proof.

“Suggesting that I send him $350 by e-transfer. And I said, ‘no, I’m not sending you any money till I see the dog!’”

She filed a second complaint with the police.

CTV News spoke to the SPVM, who acknowledged it’s looking into two potential cases. One for possible abduction and the other for alleged extortion.

“I won’t press charges to the people that have the dog. Just give it back to us,”

Homer is microchipped and therefore identifiable.

“This is a nightmare,” Pinksky says.
