Beautiful sunshine and blue skies aren’t unusual this time of year in Montreal, but Wednesday’s temperature was the cherry on top of a picture-perfect day. It was a mild day -- so unusual that it broke a record. The city hit a high of 23 degrees Celsius, smashing the previous record of 18.3 degrees, recorded on the same day in 1956. The region will continue to hold on to some of that warmth with an overnight low of 13 degrees, when the temperature would typically hover at the freezing mark. Thursday is expected to be almost as mild, with a high of 18 degrees. If temperatures surpass the predicted high Thursday, another record could potentially be broken. The number to beat is a high of 19 degrees, which was achieved on Nov. 5, 1988. According to Environment and Climate Change Canada’s November forecast outlook, the second week of the month will bring a brief period of gradual cooling, but the agency adds that temperatures could return to above normal for a little longer.
