Montreal is set to welcome 210 new affordable housing units through a new development project aimed at improving access to affordable housing. The Interloge project is part of a 415-unit housing complex, totalling $162 million. The building is located on Lorimier Avenue in Montreal, representing an investment of more than $81.4 million. “Finding affordable housing has become a challenge for too many Montreal families. With Esplanade Cartier, we’re delivering housing where people want to live—near public transit, services, and jobs,” Soraya Martinez Ferrada, the Mayor of Montreal, wrote in a press release. “This is the kind of project Montreal needs to address the housing crisis and keep our neighbourhoods accessible. ” Up to 84 eligible households will be eligible for the Quebec Rent Supplement Program (PSLQ) through the Quebec Housing Corporation (SHQ). By way of this program, individuals will not pay more than 25 per cent of their income toward rent. Additionally, 126 units will be offered at 95 per cent of median rent, according to the City of Montreal. The project will also prioritize at least 32 units for single mothers through the non-profit organization Mothers with Power. This project is a partnership between the Quebec government, the City of Montreal and housing association Interloge, in partnership with real estate developer Prével.
