The man found seriously injured by a sharp object in an apartment in the Montreal borough of Côte-des-Neiges–Notre-Dame-de-Grâce last Saturday has died from his injuries. This is the 18th homicide recorded by the Montreal Police Service (SPVM) within its jurisdiction since the beginning of the year. The SPVM was called to the scene on Saturday around 3 p.m. at an apartment on Dupuis Avenue, near Victoria Avenue. The 29-year-old man was transported to a hospital in critical condition, SPVM spokesperson Jean-Pierre Brabant said Tuesday. A 49-year-old man who was arrested at the scene has since been released. Brabant explained that the individual remains, however, an “important witness.” The investigation, led by the SPVM’s Major Crimes Unit, is ongoing to determine the exact circumstances surrounding this 18th homicide in the city. - This report by The Canadian Press was first published in French on Aug. 25, 2026.
