Montreal police (SPVM) are warning parents to be vigilant ahead of Halloween following a major seizure of cannabis edibles. In a news release, the SPVM said it carried out a series of searches that led to the seizure of several cannabis edibles, including 8,505 bags of THC-infused gummies, 9.8 kilograms of cannabis chocolate, as well as 25.5 kilograms each of hashish and cannabis. The SPVM also arrested two individuals linked to the possession and distribution of the illegal substances. Police said the products were often packaged in brightly coloured wrappers resembling candies, which could easily be mistaken for regular sweets. “Thanks to the rigorous work of our investigators, these potentially dangerous products have been taken off the streets. However, we want to remind parents that vigilance remains essential, especially during the Halloween period,” said Sylvain Dumouchel, commander of the SPVM’s West Regional Investigations. Police say there is no indication the products were intended to be distributed to children. However, the force is advising parents to check treats before giving them to children, ensure packaging is intact and sealed, and pay special attention to suspicious wrappers displaying terms such as “THC.” Parents should discard any treats or products that appear suspicious or of questionable origin. Anyone who finds suspicious objects or products is asked to call 911 or their local neighbourhood police station immediately. Anyone who believes they may have been exposed to such products should contact the Quebec Poison Control Centre without delay at 1-800-463-5060.
