Parts of Montreal’s West Island are set to lose power on Friday night for a planned service interruption by Hydro-Quebec. According to the public utility company, work is expected to take nine hours, from 9 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Saturday. “The reason why is because we’re actually replacing equipment at the Des Source substation,” explains Cendrix Bouchard with Hydro-Quebec. “The reason for the replacement now is to prevent a possible problem, a possible malfunction, over the winter, which would end up in an unplanned outage that would take much longer to fix.” About 64,000 homes are expected to be in the dark during this time. “There’s never a perfect moment for a planned outage,” said Bouchard. “Good thing is it’s a planned outage we can do during the night.
