A forest fire forced the evacuation of hiking trails on Mont-Echo, near Sutton, que., on Monday. The town posted on its Facebook page that firefighters were on-site and waterbombers were expected to arrive around 12:30 p.m. The trails have been closed at both ends and an audio warning was played nearby. Firefighters were also notifying hikers they encountered of the evacuation order. Around 4 p.m., the provincial forest fire protection agency (SOPFEU) told Noovo Info the fire was under control. The agency’s firefighters are on their way to assess the damage and determine whether anything needs to be extinguished to prevent another fire. With files from Noovo Info’s Olivier Demers
