Quebec provincial police (SQ) and Peacekeepers in Kahnawake arrested a driver clocked going over 200 km/h on Montreal’s South Shore overnight. The SQ said in a news release that a 23-year-old driver led police on a high-speed chase at around 2:30 a.m. on Sunday morning when officers spotted the vehicle without a license plate on Highway 15 North near the Samuel-De Champlain Bridge in Montreal. “Upon seeing the police, the driver immediately fled the scene,” the SQ said. The SQ clocked the vehicle going 217 km/h in a 70 km/h zone as it headed on Highway 20 West, then Route 138 West towards the Honore-Mercier Bridge. “The Kahnawake Peacekeepers were then called in for backup and located the vehicle stopped in the parking lot of a business on their territory,” the SQ said. “The suspect attempted to flee again before colliding with the officers’ vehicle, rendering his vehicle inoperable. He was arrested at the scene.” The young man from Chateauguay was given several citations and may face charges, including fleeing the scene and armed assault. His vehicle was also impounded for a month, and his driver’s license was suspended for a week. The SQ is continuing the investigation.
