A seven-year-old girl is in critical condition after she got off a school bus and then was struck by the vehicle seconds later, Laval police say. The collision happened at around 4 p.m. in Laval’s Fabreville district near the intersection of Raphaël and Siméon streets. Sgt. Laurent Arsenault, a police spokesperson, said the child was sent to hospital to be treated for serious injuries. She remains critical but stable condition. The bus driver did not stop after the impact and was intercepted by police a few minutes later, Arsenault added. She will be interviewed by investigators, who are still trying to piece together the sequence of events that led to the collision. The investigation is ongoing and no arrests have been made. Quebec Education Minister Sonia LeBel reacted to the incident on social media on Tuesday evening. “Another accident involving a school bus and a student from a school in Laval occurred late this afternoon. My thoughts are with the young girl, who is currently hospitalized, and her family,” LeBel posted on X.
