A frost advisory is in place for the Greater Montreal region.

Environment Canada has issued a warning that overnight temperatures could dip to near the freezing mark.

The yellow-level advisory, issued Thursday morning, covers Montreal, Laval and the Vaudreuil area.

Forecasters say frost may damage crops in frost-prone areas, and are urging residents to take precautions to protect cold-sensitive plants, trees and gardens before nightfall.

Environment Canada rates its confidence in the forecast as high.

Frost advisories are issued when widespread frost or freezing temperatures are expected during the growing season.

Residents are asked to monitor alerts and forecasts as conditions develop.
