Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk is weighing in on the future of Quebec. Musk took to his social media platform Tuesday to say that he thinks Quebec should become independent and separate from Canada. He also said that Alberta and Saskatchewan should do the same. The billionaire was responding to respond to comments made by premier-designate Paul St-Pierre Plamondon, who said he firmly believes that Quebec will become sovereign “one day.” The remarks seem to have struck a chord with Musk, who replied to a Polymarket post that Quebec “should separate” from Canada. “They would be better off. Alberta and Saskatchewan should separate too,” he added in another comment. Quebecers went to the polls on Oct. 5, when St-Pierre Plamondon and the Parti Québécois (PQ) emerged as winners of a minority government, with 59 seats. The premier-designate has promised an independence referendum, though he said he would not call one before U.S. President Donald Trump leaves office. The PQ’s minority status risks complicating the process for St-Pierre Plamondon. During a lengthy press briefing on Tuesday, St-Pierre Plamondon announced that he plans to meet with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney in the coming days, adding that he is ready to collaborate while prioritizing Quebec’s interests.
