An electric school bus burst into flames in Montreal’s Côte-des-Neiges-Notre-Dame-de-Grâce borough Tuesday morning. The bus caught fire around 8 a.m. while on Victoria Avenue and Jean-Talon Street West. The driver, along with six children on the bus, safely exited the bus and took shelter in a nearby building. No injuries were reported, but the bus was totalled, with the passenger section charred black and every window destroyed. Though it’s clear the fire was not sparked by the electric bus battery, Montreal fire department chief Martin Guilbault says the cause is still unknown. CTV reached out to Lion Electric, the bus manufacturer, but did not hear back.
