After an elderly convenience store security guard was assaulted while working in Repentigny near a school, eight youths have been arrested. Repentigny Mayor Nicolas Dufour confirmed the arrests connected to a video that began circulating on March 3 near Horizon School. “That’s why, throughout the week, we invite you to be cautious and respect the work of police officers,” he said. Repentigny police (SPVR) told Noovo Info that a ninth arrest may be made soon and that the charges could range from intimidation and harassment to assault and disturbing the peace. The video, which circulated widely on social media, shows the security guard grabbing a teenager outside the store. The teenager pushes him to the ground, and others grab him. Dufour responded to the video on March 8. “I understand very well that these images cause reaction and concern to some of you. I was just as shocked. It’s okay to be like that. As mayor, this concerns me too,” he said. The Affluents School Service Centre said that it intervened with the students concerned. “Although the events shown took place outside of school, we understand the concerns they raise,” the service centre said on Facebook. “The young people in these pictures are primarily teenagers in our community. Respect and coexistence education is built every day, at school and at home.”
