Montreal police (SPVM) says it has resumed its search for a possible missing person at Cap-Saint-Jacques beach in the west end Pierrefonds-Roxboro borough. “So far, it seems to be an event that is unfounded,” said Caroline Chèvrefils, a spokesperson with Montreal police, adding that the nautical team is still on site. This comes after the force received a 911 call Tuesday at 6:40 p.m. about a person who was potentially in distress in the water. The beach was completely cleared to make way for an operation, including searches on the ground and water, but officers did not find any signs of a body or a person in need of help. “We’re still not sure if it’s true,” noted Julien Lévesque, a spokesperson with Montreal police. This comes after two suspected drownings at Verdun Beach, one on Monday and another on June 7. So far this year, there have been 25 drownings in Quebec, compared to last year’s 24. There was a total of 60 drownings in the province in 2024, down from 85 in 2023.
