The city of Chateauguay issued a boil water advisory on Saturday morning. As a result of a technical problem at the Marchand drinking water production plant, the city has implemented a precautionary boil water advisory, according to the city’s website. The advisory is in effect for all municipalities served by the city’s water system, including Chateauguay, Mercier, Léry, Saint-Urbain-Premier and Sainte-Martine. “Boiled water (previously boiled for at least one minute) or bottled water should be used for drinking, brushing teeth, and preparing and washing food,” the city wrote on its website. “There is no health risk associated with taking a bath or shower. However, we recommend using very little water in the bathtub when bathing young children and not allowing them to play in the water.” According to the city’s website, all microorganisms that can affect health are destroyed when water is brought to a boil for at least one minute. The boil water advisory remains in effect until lifted, the website notes. The city says its working to quickly resolve the situation. Boil water advisories are issued if there is a risk of drinking contaminated water following water main repairs or if non-compliant results are obtained for raw water.
