Boil water advisory in effect for area in Montreal’s Ville-Marie borough

There is a boil water advisory in effect in an area of Montreal’s Ville-Marie borough.

The City of Montreal said that those living on Guy Street between Saint-Jacques and Saint-Antoine streets and on Wrexham Avenue should not drink tap water without boiling it for a full minute.

The city said an advisory will be issued when the situation returns to normal.

In addition to drinking, boiled water should be used for the following:

• preparing bottles and food for babiesrinsing and preparing food that will be eaten raw (fruit, vegetables, etc.)
• preparing food that does not require prolonged cooking (canned soup, dessert, etc.)
• preparing ice cubes
• brushing your teeth and rinsing your mouth
• giving your pets drinking water.

Unboiled tap water is fine for washing dishes in hot water, washing clothes or taking a shower or bath.

The city reminds that water should be boiled even if a home filtering device is installed. In addition, schools, businesses and institutions in the ares should shut off water fountains and make annoucements about the state of the water.
