Bloc Quebecois to run same candidate again in Terrebonne byelection

Bloc Québécois leader Yves-François Blanchet announced Thursday morning that Nathalie Sinclair-Desgagné will once again be the party’s candidate in Terrebonne in a byelection that could have a major impact on the Carney government.

The rest of Canada will have its eyes on Terrebonne in the coming weeks, and Nathalie Sinclair-Desgagné will defend the Bloc against Liberal Tatiana Auguste.

These elections will be like a rematch for the Bloc candidate, who was defeated by a single vote by Liberal Tatiana Auguste last spring, but a Bloc vote was not counted due to an error by Elections Canada.

On Feb. 13, the Supreme Court invalidated the results of last spring’s federal election in this riding.

Canada will have its eyes on Terrebonne

This election could determine whether the Carney government obtains the 172 seats needed for a majority in the House of Commons.

Currently, the Liberals hold 169 seats, the Conservatives 141, the Bloc Québécois 22, the New Democrats seven, and the Greens one.

Three seats are currently vacant and will be subject to byelections.

Two of these elections will take place in red strongholds in the Toronto ridings of Scarborough Southwest and University-Rosedale.

Hence, the importance of the election in Terrebonne. It could allow Mark Carney to reach the magic number of 172.
