The Bloc Québécois has confirmed that party leader Yves-François Blanchet’s X account was hacked. On Wednesday morning, two posts promoting cryptocurrencies were still online on Blanchet’s account on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter. In a statement on the same social media platform, Blanchet’s press secretary, Joanie Riopel, confirmed that the Bloc Québécois leader’s X account had been hacked. “We urge the public not to click on any links in posts related to cryptocurrency or any other new links until further notice from the Bloc Québécois,” she wrote. In the fake posts, Blanchet appeared to be celebrating having made several thousand dollars through an investment in cryptocurrencies. However, several red flags suggested something was amiss. In the first post, an amount was listed in euros, but that same amount was shown in Canadian dollars in a screenshot accompanying the message. In the second post, Blanchet referred to himself using feminine pronouns. A similar post had also appeared on Blanchet’s account a few days earlier, but the Bloc Québécois leader’s team had managed to have it removed.
