Former journalist André Pratte is back at the helm of the Quebec Liberal Party (PLQ) National Political Commission. He will be tasked with helping develop the party’s platform ahead of the October general election. In 2023, the former senator co-chaired the PLQ’s Consultation and Reflection Committee with MNA Madwa-Nika Cadet. The committee proposed, among other things, adopting a Quebec constitution and a law on interculturalism. Pratte previously chaired the Political Commission until 2025, leaving for professional reasons. He was replaced by former minister Martin Coiteux, who held the position for just three months. Coiteux had supported Pablo Rodriguez in the Liberal leadership race. Rodriguez resigned six months after his election following allegations of irregularities in his leadership campaign financing. Antoine Dionne-Charest, son of former premier Jean Charest, served as interim chair. Meanwhile, Charles Milliard became PLQ leader. “The Political Commission is responsible for defining the party’s political orientations, consulting members at all levels and collaborating with the parliamentary wing and the party leader,” the PLQ said in a statement.
