Montreal police arrested a 23-year-old man they say was dealing crack and cocaine at the Notre-Dame Street homeless encampment. Police said in a news release that Clément Christian Massé is “believed to be linked to a drug trafficking ring operating primarily in the Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve borough and targeting, in particular, vulnerable individuals frequenting the Notre-Dame encampment area.” Police say they launched an investigation after reports from the public, and additional arrests are expected. Police seized a fake handgun, cocaine and crack and other evidence after a search, the release says. Massé is facing charges including drug trafficking and weapons possession. “Despite the arrest, the investigation continues to locate other suspects involved,” the SPVM said.
