A 37-year-old man was seriously injured in Sherbrooke on Sunday evening when he was involved in a road collision with another vehicle, driven by a 20-year-old man who was arrested for drunk-driving. The collision occurred at around 6:50 p.m. on Larocque Street. According to initial information gathered by the Sherbrooke Police Service, a vehicle travelling north collided “head-on” with a second vehicle in the opposite direction. The driver of the vehicle that was struck, a 37-year-old man from Sherbrooke, sustained serious injuries. “He had to be cut free by the fire brigade before being rushed to the CHUS Fleurimont, where his condition was described as critical,” explained the Sherbrooke police in a statement. The driver of the other vehicle, a 20-year-old man from Sherbrooke, also had to be hospitalized. “Officers at the scene quickly observed that the driver of the vehicle at fault was showing signs of alcohol intoxication. He was arrested for driving while impaired by alcohol,” police said. The young driver was being held under supervision at the hospital on Monday morning. He will face charges of driving with impaired faculties causing bodily harm, dangerous driving causing bodily harm and criminal negligence. On Sunday evening, investigators and a forensic technician from the Sherbrooke Police Service attended the scene to examine it. They were assisted by a collision investigation specialist from the Sûreté du Québec. To further their investigation, the police issued a public appeal to locate a witness who spoke to officers after the collision but had subsequently left the scene. The information was circulated in the media and on social media on Monday morning, prompting the person to come forward. They will be interviewed by the investigators working on the case.
