One person was killed and three others were seriously injured after a collision on Tuesday morning involving a car and a truck on Highway 20 near Saint-Hyacinthe in the Montérégie region. Emergency services responded to the fatal collision, forcing Highway 20 to be closed eastbound between Exit 138 and the entrance from Route 116. The collision occurred at 6:30 a.m. when the trailer of a semi truck struck a car. “The car swerved following the collision and flipped. Unfortunately, one of the car’s passengers died,” said Sergeant Louis-Philippe Ruel, spokesperson with the Sûreté du Québec (SQ). The three other occupants of the car, all men, suffered injuries that are considered serious. The ages of those involved in the incident were not immediately known. The truck driver did not remain at the scene, and police are currently searching for him. The Sûreté du Québec says it does not know whether the driver deliberately fled the scene or simply did not notice that there was an impact. According to Ruel, Highway 20 towards Quebec City could remain closed for “a short while” to allow police to analyze the scene.
