PODGORICA, Montenegro - Montenegrin authorities say an investigation into a suspected mass grave has been closed after finding no evidence that Kosovo Albanians were buried at the site.

A court spokeswoman Biljana Covic said Wednesday that no trace of a mass grave was found at a sawmill in Andrijevica, near the border with Kosovo.

Montenegro investigated the site upon request from Kosovo, which had information that ethnic Albanians killed during the 1998-99 war might have been buried in Andrijevica.

Similar mass graves have been discovered further north in Serbia, whose wartime authorities transferred the victims' bodies from Kosovo to cover up atrocities.

Montenegro split from Serbia in 2006, while Kosovo declared independence in 2008.
