American women who support Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump in the U.S. election have taken to social media to defend their choice and encourage other women to join them. On Friday morning, the top trending hashtag on Twitter was #WomenWhoVoteTrump after the national director for the group National Women for Trump, Jennifer Arangio, emailed followers asking them to participate in the social media campaign.

“The time is now to show your support for Donald J. Trump! Help us spread the word that millions of women are supporting Trump,” Arangio wrote.

The hashtag movement follows a week of controversy stemming from allegations from several women that Trump sexually assaulted and groped them according to reports from The New York Times and People Magazine. Trump has denied all of the claims and accused his rival Hillary Clinton of running a smear campaign against him. The response also comes after a tape of a lewd exchange, in 2005, between Trump and then “Access Hollywood” host Billy Bush was leaked to the press last week. The tape prompted intense media scrutiny about Trump’s treatment and perception of women.

Many of the women using the #WomenWhoVoteTrump hashtag made a point of describing themselves as educated and intelligent.

Other women identified which of Trump’s policies mattered to them.

A number of other tweeters claimed they cared more about political issues than the recent controversy surrounding Trump’s attitude toward women.

The hashtag has already been used more than 80,000 times with tweets for and against the Republican candidate, as the Twitter campaign inspired a backlash from women who oppose the billionaire businessman’s candidacy.

Other Twitter users attempted to identify what type of woman would support Trump as their candidate.
