A Canadian has been kidnapped along with three other internationals taken during an attack at a Kenyan refugee camp just across the border from Somalia.

Foreign aid workers from Norway, Pakistan and the Philippines were also taken in the attack Friday.

A Kenyan aid worker was killed during the kidnapping, said police official Philip Ndolo, The Canadian Press reports.

The kidnappers are believed to be Somali militants who ambushed the two-car convoy the aid workers were driving through the Dadaab refugee camp, Ndolo said.

Kenyan police said they were pursuing the attackers.

Foreign Affairs has not yet confirmed that a Canadian is among those taken captive, but issued a statement Friday saying the agency was aware of a "reported kidnapping."

"We are pursuing all appropriate channels to seek further information and are in close contact with Kenyan authorities," the statement said.

"We will not comment or release any information which may compromise these efforts."
