TORONTO - A provincial government official has been named interim chief executive of the embattled Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corp.

Michelle DiEmanuele -- the deputy minister of Government Services -- will join OLG on a four-month term starting April 16. OLG chairman Michael Gough says DiEmanuele will help strengthen a commitment to "drive cultural change throughout the corporation.''

A report last month from the Ontario ombudsman found unscrupulous lottery retailers had unjustly collected at least $15 million in prizes while the retailer-friendly OLG turned a blind eye to the practice.

The government has said it will implement all of the ombudsman's recommendations to improve security and accountability in the agency.

DiEmanuele says she welcomes the chance to join the OLG at this critical time and that her track record of making changes to improve accountability will benefit the agency.

Gough says he expects a permanent CEO to be named within four months.
