TORONTO -- Peter Holland celebrated his new two-year contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs by shooting a hole-in-one.
"Decent day," the centre tweeted along with a picture from the golf course. "Sign a new contract and dunk a hole-in-one!! No bounce, straight in."
Holland's contract, worth US$1.55 million, might better equate to a birdie. It's the first one-way deal of his NHL career after 17 points in his first 68 games.
The Leafs acquired Holland in November from the Anaheim Ducks along with Brad Staubitz for Jesse Blacker and second- and seventh-round picks. The trade happened when Toronto was so short on centres because of injuries and suspensions that James van Riemsdyk was moved there from left wing.
With Dave Bolland gone, Holland is expected to compete for the third-line centre job next season behind Tyler Bozak and Nazem Kadri. Last year he had five goals and five assists in 39 games.
The Caledon, Ont., native was a first-round pick of the Ducks at 15th overall in the 2009 draft.
